Have you ever felt your home was like shaping to a village shrine, too cramped, with a riot of colours, clothes and personal effects all over the place? Have you ever seen those clutter free homes – maybe in magazines or at your friends’ or siblings place and wondered when you would get your home to look like that? Well, a journey of a million miles as they say begins with a move!
So in case you are interested in making that right move, here are some tips for your line of action:
The first is to restrain yourself from hoarding property or effects beyond the constraint of your living space. In other words, let the size of your home dictate how much stuff you have. So in effect don’t dream of getting a bigger closet but instead try paring down your clothes to fit the space you have.
Secondly, keep purging your stuff periodically because things have a way of building up. Any personal effect you have not used in six months really has no place in your home. Thirdly it is advisable to be systematic in your storage. Have a place for everything and keep everything in its place. Keeping things in boxes or bags can also help in this regard.
It is very useful to have a junk drawer or storage where you keep all the stuff you cannot arrange in one particular place – a sort of miscellaneous cabinet. That way you bring your clutter under control.
By now you get the drift, which is to habitually put away things you no longer have proximate use for. The next most important thing is to form the habit of putting things away to where you removed them from. Pick up the clothes from the bed and hang them in the wardrobe; put the pots back into the drawer and return the shoes to the rack etc. An additional tip is to create a storage for things close to where you use them. That way one does not have to travel across the house to put things away after using them. Remember all you need to do is start with a move!
